Peaceful, close-to-nature, eventful – that’s winter holidays in Vinschgau. In the west of South Tirol, things are quieter than elsewhere. Glorenza offers particular value to winter hikers, cross-country skiers and pleasure seekers. Numerous winter hiking trails lead through snowy scenery to rustic lodges; from the neighbouring village of Schlinig 15 km of groomed trails lead all the way to Schliniger Alm – the Nordic cross-country skiing centre there is internationally known. The gentle cross-country ski trails around Lake Reschen and the popular Swiss cross-country skiing valley of Val Müstair are not far away.

A special highlight is the venosta nordic-Ticket. This provides cross-country skiing fans access to eight cross-country skiing areas in Upper Vinschgau, in Val Müstair (Switzerland) and Nauders (Austria).

Skiing in Vinschgau naturally also has a tradition: The ski areas of Watles and Schöneben-Haideralm at Lake Reschen can be reached in 20 minutes’ drive. Several times a day, a free ski bus will take you from Glurns up to Watles skiing mountain. Both ski areas are part of the Two Country Skiarena, a merger of five ski areas in South and North Tirol. The Two Country Skiarena-Ticket provides access to 211 kilometres of pistes, in addition to Watles and Schöneben also to the ski areas Sulden and Trafoi at Ortler mountain as well as Nauders-Bergkastel. Experience cross-border winter fun!

Special winter moments

Delightful winter experiences await our guests. For a start, there’s a visit to Lake Reschen with its sunken church tower. In December, when the lake freezes over, it turns into a skating ground. Another skating ground opens in December in Prad. Ice princesses and princes, step up! Ice skates are available for rent on site.

Another equally fabulous experience is a visit to Glurns Advent. When in December the candles are lit and choirs singing, the little mediaeval town unfolds its full magic. The peaceful and homelike Christmas market is a true hidden gem and is held on a weekend in December around 8 December. Somewhat bigger, but also nice, are the original South Tirolean Christmas markets in Merano and Bolzano.
