Castles, monasteries and lakes: Culture-historical in Vinschgau

The Vinschgau is a culture-historical treasure trove: Castles, monasteries and museums enrich the landscape. From our B&B in Vinschgau, you can quickly get to numerous day-trip destinations, such as Marienberg monastery. A place of peace and prayer since 900 years, the Benedictine abbey houses a crypt with exceptional Romanesque frescoes. Churburg Castle at Schluderns, which can be reached from Glurns in an hour’s walk, is one of the best preserved castle complexes in South Tirol with a large, private armoury.

Also very popular are the Messner Mountain Museums in Vinschgau: In MMM Juval at the castle with the same name, the “Myth of the mountain“ is in focus, the subterranean MMM Ortles in Sulden deals with the topic “mountain and ice”.

Popular day-trip destinations at any time of year are Reschen- and Haidersee Lakes. An easy circular path leads around Lake Reschen, at the centre of which stands the sunken church tower. Placid Haidersee Lake is also a rewarding destination; from the shore, hikers enjoy wonderful views of the majestic Ortler mountain.
